Public Liability Insurance Product Options

We have listed below answers to the most common questions we are asked about the policy options and terms on tradesman liability insurance policies.  You can contact us or request a call back if you prefer to speak with someone about the policy options available.

What level of public liability insurance do I need?

Public liability insurance is designed to pay your legal liability to members of the public for death, bodily injury or damages to their property, which occurs as a result of your business activities. It also covers legal fees and expenses. Each trade or profession carries its own level of potential risk and you should consider your most expensive potential claim and ensure you have sufficient liability insurance to cover this risk. Policies are available at £1 million, £2 million, or £5 million.

Do I need employers liability insurance?

Employers liability insurance is a legal requirement if you employ one or more people.  Employees normally include all employees under contracts of employment, apprentices, trainees and temporary hired in workers. Employers liability insurance is designed to protect your business against its legal liability for injury, illness or death to employees arising from their employment. Policies normally offer £10 million of cover as standard.

Do you cover high risk trades?

Yes, we have access to specialist insurers who provide public liability insurance for high risk trades such as scaffolding contractors, welders, and roofers.  Due to the nature of this risk quotes can often take up to 48 hours.

Can you provide immediate cover?

Yes, in 99% of cases we can provide you with immediate cover over the telephone. We understand there are times when you need to provide a certificate of insurance to secure a prospective contract. If required, and for a small fee, we can normally fax or email confirmation of insurance within the hour.

Can I include tools of trade cover?

Tools of trade cover is an optional extra that allows you to include all risks insurance on portable tools and equipment used in the course of daily trade. Policies normally offer the option of £1,500, £2,500 or £5,000 of insurance. If you use and are liable for the loss of hired in plant you should consider arranging a contractors all risks insurance package.

Can I include goods in transit insurance?

If you transport property and materials in the course of your trade then goods in transit insurance provides optional insurance against damage, loss and theft to those goods and materials whilst in transit from one place to another. Cover can also be arranged as an add on to your van insurance or purchased as a stand alone goods in transit policy for couriers and larger organisations.

How do I pay for my insurance?

For most policies we offer the choice of monthly or annual payment terms. Annual payments are made by cheque, debit or credit card or if you prefer to spread the cost of your insurance and pay monthly we offer a direct debit scheme.
